1. New Year's Resolutions
Have you been thinking a lot about the questions I presented 2
weeks ago? How did it feel to work on those? You've probably
already made some decisions about what your new year's
resolutions are going to be, but if you haven't here are some
thoughts to stimulate those actions.
Think about all that you learned from your challenges and your
achievements. Think about what you learned about yourself.
Some of my challenges for the year were:
1. Worrying too much about whether I would be able to survive
providing these services from a home based practice
2. Insomnia - partly because of my worry and primarily
because I am unable to turn my brain off from thinking.
3. Setting boundaries - There are times when I care more
about not hurting someone's feelings than respecting myself and
saying no or setting better boundaries to accept what I want
and reject the things I don't.
From doing the exercise I gave you last week I was able to see
1. what I truly value in my life by looking at the things that I did
accomplish over the year 2. how much I can realistically expect
myself to accomplish in a year.
By looking at what my challenges were, I'm able to see clearly
what I want to work on this year.
1. I established a mission statement for my life rather than
just for this practice. My mission is to use the gifts and talents I
have to help bring healing to other's lives. In other words, I'm
measuring things differently now by looking at the success of the
work I'm doing in my own life and my clients lives rather than
focusing on how to make the business work and survive.
2. I'm lighting candles and playing nature sounds at night
when I go to sleep. I've decided to focus on these things and not
my thoughts...letting go of the day and knowing that I can pick
up the things I want to work on tomorrow instead of now while I
am supposed to be sleeping.
3. This one is the biggest challenge. I want to take more risks
at trusting that the people who care about me will stick around
and still care about me, even if I say no to them sometimes in
order to respect myself.
What about you? Do you want to work on the things that
challenged you this year? How can you implement the
changes you need to make?
**I'm holding a 10 week workshop to help you work on your
health and your new year's resolutions. Workshops will be held
in Brooklyn and in Manhattan. For details, check out part 3 of
