1. Who's Winning The Elections In Your Life?

I recently read a log in a friend’s blog that I thought offered
a thought provoking, holistic point of view that challenged
and excited me.  I want to share it with you this week with
one request.  Carve out some time for yourself to really think
about this today, whether it be five minutes of focused quiet
time, or during a meditative walk.

It was written during last year’s government elections and
requires you to think about how your life and body might
support or protest how you govern yourself.

With all the campaign ads running on TV and radio these
days, local personalities voicing their support for candidates,
candidates speaking out against other candidates, "normal
citizens" praising the latest administration's reforms, it's had
me thinking. The other night as I sat listening to yet another
urge for support I thought to myself, "How hard can it really
be to be mayor of New York City (or president of the U.S.)?"
I mean, it seems in those jobs it's all about delegation.  All
you really have to do is find people who are experts in a
specific area and commission them to do what's needed.
Right?  Yes, so you have to be a good judge of character,
and you have to have a pretty good pool to choose from,
but when you're at that level it would seem there'd be loads
of people to choose from. Oh, and you have to be a good
mediator when debates arise between your advisors, but at
the end of the day that doesn't seem so challenging for a
middle-child from a big family like me.

Obviously, I am not the slightest bit politically inclined.

Nevertheless, my thoughts shifted, as they always do - to
me. I started to wonder what would happen if there was an
election for my position as head of my life. Would I be an
automatic shoe-in with my constituents? Or would my track
record leave room for debate?

For instance, would my liver and other organs protest that
I've not supplied them with the federally recommended
amounts of nutritional aid to at least balance the flood of
toxins regularly forced on them? Would my finances protest
that I have exploited them, that they are my weakest and
most ignored demographic? Would my emotions accuse me
of recklessly wasting them by over commitment in shallow
relationships and under communication in deep life-giving
relationships?

What about my campaign allies? Who would support me
staying in office? My ego? Would my ego be the crony who
spoke up loudly, praising my ambiguous achievements and
thanking me for placing him in his position of power?

Would my heart thank me for the care and protection I've
made top administration priority?

In the light of these questions I think the candidate
debates would be incredibly exciting. That is, if there were
someone else running for position as head of my life. But
there isn't. And I'm not so sure that's a good thing. Without
challenging my own administration policies I'm afraid to find
myself continuing in inefficient, wasteful, mediocre patterns.

Like the next citizen, I want to live in a city that thrives. I
want to be part of a nation that flourishes. But I am realizing
that no matter how good the mayor is, my happiness and
prosperity are less linked to his leadership, and more deeply
dependant on my own." -http://www.rachelbulkley.blogspot.com

What about you?  How's the government of your life going?
Relationships, Finances, Your Heart, Your Physical Health, Your
Friends, Your Work, Your Nourishment?  Are you supplying
yourself with appopriate needs in all of these areas.  Are you
protecting yourself from abuse?

Let me know what you think?  I am very curious to hear.  I
will also be taking inventory of myself.

If you find yourself wanting coaching to bring this into balance
contact me for some thought provoking discussion on your
own life this summer.  Get some individualized feedback and
make some serious progress!!

"Counseling with Melissa was so much more than what I'd
expected.  I started out thinking I was just going to be
coached through a diet, but she helped with many other
aspects of my life.  She really took the time to get to know me
and respected my values.  We worked on my self-image and I
have learned to be kinder and more accepting to myself.  She
helped me to develop a budget that was livable, ultimately
leading to less stress in my life.  We worked on how I deal with
personal relationships as well.  I am so much more aware of my
needs and how to express them to those in my life.  I also lost
about 20 pounds during our six months of sessions and have still
maintained that weight loss.  I miss my telephone meetings with
Melissa, but it's still very helpful to get her weekly newsletters.
I would recommend her services to anyone!  She is very
balanced in her approach."
