1. Procrastination

Have you ever noticed that you procrastinate on the
things that actually make you feel the best, like your
workouts or completing a project?  You find yourself
sitting around watching T.V., napping, dilly dallying,
maybe even doodling.  Whatever it is, it’s not that
list of things that you have wanted to do, but are
just not getting around to.

The other day I finished a project I had been putting
off.  I felt amazing afterwards.  It made my day
actually.  I was vibrant, social, and had a big smile on
my face.  I loved every moment of the process too. 
Afterwards, I asked myself why I waited so long.  I
have found myself in this situation before.  Putting
something off, dreading it for some reason….even
though once I actually do it, it feels great.

Why?

This is actually a common problem.  Why do you think
that is?

Ha!  You though I was going to give you the answer!

Think about it for a second. 

Think of one thing that you are procrastinating on right
now.  Why are you avoiding it?

"I don't know" is not an okay answer.  If you knew
what the answer was, what would you say?

My reason for not getting around to my project was
intimidation.  I was intimidated.  It was a planning
and writing project, and I was worried that I wouldn’t
be able to produce something satisfactory.  I had to
do it though, because I had a deadline.  Thankfully,
because I found the process to be satisfying and my
finished product exceeded my expectations.

Just Do It!

My reason for avoiding something is not necessarily
your reason.  That’s why I didn’t answer the question
for you.  Next week I’m going to talk about how to get
motivated, but here’s another important thing.  While
it can be helpful to understand why we do or don’t do
a thing, sometimes we just have to move forward.  You
can accomplish tasks, or you can waste more time
avoiding it by trying to understand yourself.  The
answers will come.  Think about it during your work-
out!  Just get moving.

Have a wonderful weekend.  Stay dry.  Or have fun
playing in the rain.  Let your kid spirit out!
