1. Are You Time or Task Motivated?
Many of us lack motivation because we try to
structure our day or our goals around a system
that doesn't work for us.
Think about this. What motivates you more, or
what do you enjoy more? Accomplishing tasks,
or having time boundaries?
Miles or Minutes?
Would you rather walk for 6 miles or walk for 60
minutes? Would you rather go to the gym with
a specific routine to accomplish, or go to the
gym for a set amount of time? Would you
rather go to work each day knowing what time
you will start and finish, or would you rather go
to work knowing what tasks you have to
accomplish and leave when they are finished?
I am not asking you what facilitates your
laziness! :-) I am asking you what makes you
most motivated, challenged, excited, and
inspired?
Your Advantage
When you figure this out, you can use it to your
advantage. You can begin to plan your day
using the system that helps you accomplish the
most and feel great about it. For instance, if
you are task oriented, you may want to begin
planning your workouts around a set of exercises
that you complete (and that you can change or
increase as time goes on to challenge yourself)
rather exercising for a set amount of time. You
can use time to challenge yourself. For instance,
if you are walking 6 miles in 60 minutes, you can
set a goal to be walking 6 miles in 50 minutes by
the end of the winter. At work you can make a
list at the end of each day on what set of tasks
you plan to accomplish the next day.
If time is more motivating for you...I am thinking
of all those burnt out people who could use limits!
For instance, "I am going to work until 6pm, and
whatever is not done, I am leaving it for
tomorrow." You may feel better and more
motivated at work each day because you have
given yourself time limits.
Experiment
You get the jist. Experiment this week and find
out what works best for you. You may find that
you vary between both depending on the
scenario. In either case, learn about yourself so
you can become more efficient at getting where
you want to go!
Have a terrific week! I will be in Orlando all week
and teaching cooking on Thursday at Chamberlins.
Like These Articles? - One of My Dreams...
By the way. Did you know that I have a dream to
have a column some day? (I guess this newsletter
is sort of a column!) I also write newsletters for
a couple fitness centers in the area. If you would
like to have wellness and lifestyle articles in your
company newsletter, or if you would like to start
a newsletter for your company (it can be in print
or online), let me know! I would LOVE to take on
a few more projects and keep the inspiration for a
healthy life going!

"I am constantly finding myself being amazed with
Melissa. She is non-judgmental, supportive, caring,
encouraging, compassionate, open minded, and full of
knowledge. So many times she has been my support
rock. I have had the most pleasurable experience of
working with her as both her client, and as her web
designer. She has supported me in some emotionally
difficult times such as stress when I was in school,
relationships, diet, finances, and business. She has
always listened intently and has provided me with
sound advice. I am unable to think of suitable words
to express the thanks and deep appreciation I have for
her and how she impacted my life."
