1. Helping The Environment by Hardly Changing a Thing
How did you make it through Thanksgiving? Did you
do okay? I spent my holiday with my parents in the
Smoky Mountains. It was beautiful, and I made sure
to take in as much oxygen as possible before
returning to New York! :-)
We all know that the state of our environment is in
a critical state, but many of us have a lot of trouble
making the changes we know matter. However, I
think even more of us are unsure what we could do
to make a difference.
Below is certainly not an exhaustive list of simple
changes you can make that will help the environment,
but it is a great start and the things on this list will
hardly cost you anything at all. It's really just a
matter of changing a few small habits.
Check it out, and pick one or two to add to your list
of New Year's Resolutions, but get started now so
that your habit is formed by January 1st! :-)
REUSE
1. Reuse old grocery or shopping bags when you go
to the store, or purchase a cloth or mesh bag that
you can tuck away in your purse and pull out when
needed. Just make an effort to stop consuming new
bags everytime you go shopping
Turn It Off/Unplug It
2. Turn off lights and any other electronics when
you're not using them. Use a power strip if possible
and turn off the power strip when the items
connected to it are not in use. Appliances such as
T.V.'s, Radios, and cell phone chargers still use some
energy even when they are turned "off." Unpluging
them is your best bet, or using a power strip and
turning it off will help.
WALK
3. Walk instead of drive whenever possible. I know
this is easy for New Yorkers, but know you guys in
the suburb will drive if anything is further than a
few blocks. If it takes you 15 minutes to walk
there, it will not only do the environment good, but
will do your body good too! :-)
Take Off Your Name
4. Remove your name and address from mailing lists
For information:
www.newdream.org/junkmail or
www.dmaconsumers.org/offmailinglist.
Gift Wrapping
5. Wrap gifts with newspaper or the funnies. You
can even select articles you want to highlight for
your receiver!
Buy Local
6. Shop at farmer's markets.

You'll save money too!
All of us can do just one more thing. Is there one
thing on this list you're not doing that you can
commit to doing today?
And by the way... let me know your Thanksgiving
success stories...whether it be relating to relatives
or not overeating.
Love ya!

"I am constantly finding myself being amazed with
Melissa. She is non-judgmental, supportive, caring,
encouraging, compassionate, open minded, and full of
knowledge. So many times she has been my support
rock. I have had the most pleasurable experience of
working with her as both her client, and as her web
designer. She has supported me in some emotionally
difficult times such as stress when I was in school,
relationships, diet, finances, and business. She has
always listened intently and has provided me with
sound advice. I am unable to think of suitable words
to express the thanks and deep appreciation I have for
her and how she impacted my life."
