1. A Personal Update on Melissa
If you've noticed that this newsletter seemed to come less frequently this month, you weren't imagining things. I really have been MIA.
Some of you know that I went back to school in 2006. In the last couple weeks I have been working hard to complete final papers and study for exams. It seemed like there was no time to do anything else.
Back to School
It's been a long time since I've written a personal note to the newsletter base, so I thought I'd let you know what's up with me. Yes, I am in school, and my current intended path is to eventually get a license in mental health counseling. I love coaching, and I want to be able to expand my services so that clients can work with me a on a wider variety of issues and also someday be able to use health insurance.
It's going to be several years before that happens. I have a degree in audio engineering, a field I worked in for a little over five years. My credits were not transferable so I'm actually doing an undergraduate interdisciplinary liberal arts program. I've been focusing on anthropology, writing, and psychology classes.
Completing My Memoir
This summer I am completing a memoir I have been working on for the last year. Over the last two semesters I have been accepted into each stage of the autobiography program at City College's Division of Worker Education. It has been a dream of mine to write about my experiences with faith, discovering my passion in life, and taking a risk to pursue it. I'm writing about the circumstances that made the journey difficult and even painful at times, as well as the joys I have experienced in achieving the things I worked so hard for. The completed project is due on October 1st, and then I am sure it will need further work before I submit it to an agent, but I will keep you guys up-to-date. I am working very hard to make the book as emotionally honest as possible.
Young Women's Group (age 24-30)
This summer I am starting a group for women ages 24-30. The group is intended to help you become more confident in the decisions you are making about your relationships, career, lifestyle, etc. I think it's a challenging time when many young women feel pressure from parents, family, friends, and society about what choices they should make and how they should live their life. I want you to recognize how you can feel confident about the decisions you are faced with, and to experience the freedom in embracing what is right for your future even if influential people in your life are trying to persuade you in a different direction. If you are interested in being a part of this group, please contact me this week: Melissa@myheartdances.com or 917-689-6530
A New Mac
Finally, I am putting my seven year old laptop to rest and purchasing a Mac. I am very excited, and the new arrival should be here at the end of the week. I am so excited about the fun services I will be able to offer you with recorded video and video chat.
Your Inspirational Challenge
And so that you can get your weekly inspirational challenge for the week, I'm sharing a writing exercise with you in section three of this newsletter. Check it out. I found the exercise a lot of fun when I did it last semester.
I hope you have a wonderful week! Get out and enjoy the sun!
