1. More on Procrastination
A couple weeks ago I told you that I am writing a memoir.
Well, let me make it clear to you that IT IS NOT EASY!
Worry
Sometimes I really get into the zone and love the story I'm telling and the words that I'm using to tell it. But every time I turn on my computer to write I worry about how I'm going to do it.
I can write short pieces. I can tell you one story. But a memoir has many stories. Which ones do I tell? What pieces do I connect to each other? How do I transition? Is this paragraph boring? confusing? presumptuous?
The Time is Now
This is something I have wanted to do for a long time, and now that time is here. I get afraid everyday. But I have no choice but to do it. It's not an option for me to put it off. I wouldn't feel good about myself if I didn't complete it during this season of my life.
So I write. I just do it. I recognize that I am afraid, but it doesn't matter. I don't have time to wallow in it. If I wallow and think too much about how I'm going to do it, I'll never get around to doing it. I'll just live between want and dread, and personally... I think that is the worst place to be. I would rather be on one end or the other, but not in the center.
Stop Wallowing
So whatever it is you are trying to do. Stop wallowing. Decide that you're doing it and just go, or decide that you're not. Maybe you will have to revise later, maybe you'll learn something and have to repeat it again next year, but the point is that you get off your butt and stopp talking and start doing.
Don't wait around for life to take you. Take it!
I have to have the first final copy completed by October 1st. If you have something you want to complete by October 1st (or earlier), write me. We'll make a game out of it.
P.S. If you have a friend in her 20's and she's struggling with relationships or trying to figure out what to do with her life, my "Women 24-30" group will help her a lot. Please have her call me!
Have a fantastic weekend!
Love from a now 31 year old.
