1. What Will You Do in the Fall? Part 2
I hope you had a chance to think about the questions I posed to you last week regarding your summer experience. It's always good to reflect on a season of life because it solidifies your experiences and helps you to remember why those months were so special. If you are new to the newsletter, or didn't receive the questions for some reason, e-mail me and I'll forward them to you.
Fall is not here yet, and I have no interest in rushing it. But we can begin to ponder what might make Fall a more meaningful and fulfilling time when it does come. When you think about the questions I asked regarding summer, what did you learn about yourself? What made you happy, and what was left undone?
When you think about fall/winter, say September - December, what changes would you like to see in yourself, or for some of you, what things would you like to see stay the same. Maybe you incorporated something during the summer and you want to hold onto it.
The Little Things
Goals and changes do not have to always be big things. In fact, it's often the small things that make the most difference in our quality of life and enable us to have the energy to be more giving towards are friends and family. Maybe you are not the most diligent person when it comes to cleaning. You could make a mini goal as simple as making your bed each morning, or making sure the dishes are clean before you go to bed. Maybe you are a neat freak, and you can make a goal to let yourself rest one day a week.
It could be as simple as giving yourself the gift of 15 minutes of stretching or yoga, or coffee by your kitchen window each morning - or 1x a week if everyday is too big of a challenge.
What small thing could make a difference in your world?
The Big Things
Many of you are still wishing you'd get around to doing that "thing" you keep saying you are going to do. First I want to say that big goals do deserve a certain amount of pondering. They need time to develop within us, so that when we are ready, we head in the right direction.
But a lot of times, we never get past the developing within us or pondering stage. All kinds of rationalizations and procrastinations get in the way. If you feel bad later for not having done it yet, that's a pretty good sign that it's time to move forward.
If something keeps coming up in your heart and mind, over and over again, that's also a good sign that it might be time to move forward.
Sometimes we just see such a big picture that we don't know how to take the first step.
But I want to remind you that sometimes you don't see step 2 until you take step 1. So if you are having trouble getting started, try to break your project down into as many steps as possible, and just go for step 1 before you worry about how you'll get to step 10. For instance, if you want to start a business, maybe step 1 is simply writing down all of your ideas. If you want to be an actor, maybe step 1 is signing up for a class, or just going to 1 audition. If you want to fall in love, maybe that's signing up for a dating service, or simply saying "hi" to that person you have a crush on.
Please don't say you can't do it, that you don't have time. It's not fair to you, and it's not fair to those around you. The people in our lives often benefit when we finally make the choice to use our talents. I'd rather hear you say that you don't want to do it, than that you can't.
You can always find a way if it's something that you want. If you're stuck, coaching can help you a lot.
If you'd like to discuss these things in a private coaching session, or one of my women's groups, please contact me. melissa@myheartdances.com
