1. Vacation in Los Angeles
I just returned this morning from spending a week in Los Angeles. We got in this morning at 5:30. Flew the red-eye, and fortunately, I slept most of the way. It's kind of fun flying the red-eye. You wake up and it's dark and all these people around you are sleeping and a few are watching TV. It's like having a slumber party on an airplane.
Los Angeles was great. I have never spent time there before; I have only driven through. One of my best friends lives there and she has been wanting me to visit for awhile. It was much cleaner and calmer than I expected. I loved the Spanish architecture that is predominant among the apartment buildings and houses, and it was sunny every single day too!
Healthy Stuff to do in L.A.
As soon as we arrived, my boyfriend introduced me to In and Out Burger, which is sort of "real" food, fast food. They sell nothing but burgers, fries, and milkshakes but everything is made fresh and with high quality, pure ingredients. The second night , we ate at a vegan restaurant called Real Food Daily. It had a great atmosphere and a great selection of food - especially for dessert. We also visited a terrific cafe called Urth, which has organic teas, including caffeine free/herbal iced tea and a large choice of coffees. On Sunday we had brunch at a French place called La Conversation. Yummm! Fresh baked bread, croissants, and delicious pumpkin pancakes and french toast! One of my favorite places to go while I was out there was a place called "The Farmer's Market". It not only has fresh produce, but many interesting shops, none of which are chains.
Besides eating, I got to dip my toes in the Pacific Ocean, visit the Getty, which has amazing and beautiful outdoor gardens and views of Los Angeles, take my morning walk in the Santa Monica Mountans, and go to my first real fashion show.
Making Myself Take Vacation
Life is so busy for me, between working with clients and going to school full time, it's hard to step away for vacation. I made myself take this trip! Sometimes you just have to do that. It was a great cap off to the summer. I finished my memoir, handed it in, and got on the plane. What a wonderful feeling!
