Feeling a need for connection?

I am creating a remedy!

Thursday, December 4, 2008

I am inviting everyone connected with MyHeartDances to an after-work happy hour gathering.

It will be held at Counter, an organic wine and martini bar (plus vegetarian bistro) in the East Village.

We'll be hanging out in the bar/lounge area and Counter has been so gracious to offer sampler appetizers during the evening.

Come make a friend, a romance, or network. Plus, reconnect with me, or meet me for the first time!

RSVP if you can, or just show up.

You can even RSVP at the event page on Facebook if you have an account.

I can't wait to see you all!

Counter is located at 105 First Ave. between 6th and 7th.

2. Can You Really Keep the Weight Off?

This week, a woman who has been reading my newsletters for several years and who has participated at length in my women's groups, just e-mailed me and said:

"Something just struck me as I read thru this newsletter - even though I've heard you say it before, it never sunk in - you lost weight and KEPT IT OFF FOR YEARS. Most people lose, but gain it back."

It's true. I lost 25 pounds in 2001, and I haven't gained it back. The first few years I tried to lose weight, I went through the typical cycle that most people stay in - I would lose a few pounds, and then ease right back into old habits and regain all of the weight, if not more. I would go on diets for anywhere from 1 day to 1 month, but rarely any longer than that.

Not Easy, But Possible!

It's not easy to stick to a weight loss plan, and it's not easy to maintain weight loss once we have lost it. When we give up food, we're not usually just giving up food. Food can become an antidepressant, a way to facilitate social connection, and a way to avoid boredom. When the food is gone, we have difficulty resisting the constant temptations and since we can't give it up "cold turkey," every time we have to eat, we want more.

But it is absolutely possible to change your lifestyle, to eat well with portion control, and feel good about yourself as a result. Even if you've never done it successfully before! It is absolutely possible to sustain that change.

On Saturday, January 17th, I'm teaching a Weight Loss and Weight Maintenance Workshop. In this workshop, you will learn how I lost the weight, what struggles I confronted, and how I keep it off today. You will also do written exercises that will help you create a practical plan for yourself. $15; 10:30 - 12:00pm

On Saturday the 24th, I will begin a 6-Week follow-up workshop for individuals who would like to work on weight loss or weight maintenance in the context of a group and accountability. You will have lessons, leadership, and guidance from me, as well as e-mail support from group members throughout the week. The sessions will meet from 10am - 11am on 6 consecutive Saturdays, from January 24th through February 28th. The cost is $150 and includes a private session with me.

***The workshop on the 17th and the 6-week series can, but do not have to be taken together!***

Sign-up for both before Christmas and get the workshop on the 17th for free.

Get Together This Thursday!

And to all MyHeartDances readers, please come out to Counter this Thursday. It's going to be a great time to get to know each other. If you want to meet me in person and discuss anything about these workshops or coaching, this is a great time to do it. Or, if you just want to make some new friends, play, and have an organic dirty martini... I'm hosting this event to create community and connection!

See you December 4th!

"For whatever reason, people are so inclined to spend money on a health club membership and working out their body, but when it comes to working on the mind and emotions, people are more hesitant. I remember the session that we had together and all of the advise and direction that you provided was truly excellent. You really made a very positive impact on my life and I can tell that you are exceptionally gifted in this area. You have a very intuitive sense and are able to put all the pieces together very quickly and correctly. These are very good skills for the type of coaching that you do, and I hope more people will see how they can benefit from the coaching that you provide." -J.R.
