Today I'm including an article by Geneen Roth. A woman who is famous for her books on diet and emotional eating. She struggled for many years with eating disorders from anorexia to binge eating. Her stories and insight resonate with many women's intimate relationship with food, but unfortunately for her, the abuse she put
her body through has resulted in numerous health problems.
Geneen shares her personal stories of how many of the principles, similar to what we talk about in my newsletters, have helped her to get healthier and maintain a balanced diet.
You must get connected to what your individual needs are based on your own lifestyle and background, stop doing crazy, restrictive diets you can't stick to, and be able to enjoy a treat when it's needed.
Dessert Once In Awhile?
Just to clarify, some people are overwhelmed by the idea that they can have dessert once in awhile, and this "permission" sends them on a regular binge. I understand this struggle, and that is far from what I'm encouraging...but the more you are able to focus on giving your body the nourishment it truly needs: vegetables, protein, complex carbohydrates like whole grains, water, and exercise...to re-build, defend itself, heal, etc., then you will have a better grip on when it's okay to have an ice cream with your best friend in the park during the summer. It won't be an obsession or a worry...it will just be a natural part of the day that is a little different from the norm.
If you struggle with emotional eating, or you need to figure out a way to nourish yourself on a daily basis, we can work together to give you the strength, knowledge, and support to choose the foods that will make your body smile!
An initial consultation is a great way to try it out. In one hour we will discuss your relationship with food, exercise, your life goals and aspirations and how you can get to where you want to go in a way that works for your unique lifestyle.
