Do You Eat When You're Bored?

Do you find that food has become a very important part of your life?

Do you eat when you're lonely, sad, happy, bored?

Is food your life?

It seems like such a silly question.  Your first response might be "Of course not!"  But think about it again.

Food was meant to meet our need for hunger, not our need for friends, love, spirituality, or a fulfilling career.

I can't tell you how many people I've met who use food to help them get through their day at work...to provide some mid-afternoon "entertainment."

If you think you may be eating for all the wrong reasons, take a look at each of these areas:

  • Relationships Friends
  • Family
  • Romance
  • Career
  • Spirituality
  • Physical Activity

Jot Down Your Thoughts

Whenever you have the urge to eat when you are not hungry, spend some time jotting down your thoughts on a notepad.  What is not fulfilling right now?  What can you do to make it different?

Sometimes what you can do is very small and will take little effort.  Sometimes it will require a big life change.

Don't be discouraged.  Your relationship with food can become a very revealing tool in assessing your life and the changes you need to make.

Getting healthier is rarely ever merely about changing your eating and exercise habits.
