What's That Numbered Sticker On Your Apple Mean?

Today I'm going to demystify for you that PLU Code that comes stuck to your fruits and vegetables.

Actually just knowing the first number of the code will tell you whether you're purchasing something organic, conventional, or genetically engineered.

It's very simple.

Conventional produce has a standard four number code that begins with 4.

Organic produce has places a 9 in front of the 4 making it a five number code.

Genetically engineered produce places an 8 in front of the 4.

Good stuff to know! Usually organic is separated from conventional, and when buying organic, you don't have to worry about it being genetically engineered...but when buying conventional, the only way you will know if it's genetically engineered is by looking at the code!
